Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a biblical recovery program to help people overcome their habits, hurts, and hang-ups. It is based on 8 principles from the Beatitudes and 12 Christ-centered recovery steps. Its purpose is to encourage fellowship and to celebrate God’s healing power as participants work their way along the road to recovery. Participants experience the true peace and serenity they have been seeking and no longer rely on their dysfunctional, compulsive, and addictive behaviors as a temporary “fix” for their pain.

What habits, hurts, and hang-ups does Celebrate Recovery address?

Celebrate Recovery is a “large umbrella” program under which a limitless number of issues can be dealt with. These might include divorce, sexual abuse, co-dependency, domestic violence, sexual addiction, food addiction, gambling addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction, or anger issues.

Where did the Celebrate Recover program originate?

John Baker is the founder of Celebrate Recovery, a ministry born out of the heart of Saddleback Church in California. Over the last fourteen years, more than 7,500 individuals have gone through this Christ-centered program at Saddleback. The Celebrate Recovery program is now being used in thousands of churches nationwide.

What happens at Celebrate Recovery meetings?

Celebrate Recovery is built around small-group interaction and the fellowship of the caring community. Weekly group meetings begin with worship, teaching, and testimony time. Then the groups break into accountability teams for a one-hour sharing based on the worship lesson. Here participants can safely share their struggles and victories as anonymity and confidentiality are basic requirements. Men and women always share separately. The meeting closes with refreshments at The Lighthouse Café. It is a place to unofficially continue the meeting through fellowship with each other.
In addition to the weekly group meetings, weekly step study groups are also held. These two-hour meetings provide a high level of accountability as members work through and share answers to questions from four participant’s guides.  This is the heart of the program where true healing occurs.
